Family Vacation Ideas Please!?
Okay, so I’m trying to plan a last minute vacation before football season starts (my husband is a coach). Can anyone recommend a fun vacation spot for me, my son (8) and my husband. I want something other then Disneyland. Somewhere somebody has been and can highly recommend. We’re trying to go somewhere the week of the 30th. Any suggestions are welcomed. Oh and I live in Northern California, but any suggestions are welcomed.

monterrey, ca area is beautiful…beaches, aquarium, cannery row, fisherman’s wharf. an 8 yr old should really like the aquarium, you can always spend an afternoon on the beach then have a fire in the evening. and there’s lots of cool things to see on the 17-mile drive through that area, too.

Have you ever been to any National Parks.Try those. If nothing else they are very beautiful and the fee to enter is not bad.You will probably need a couple of days to take it all in.

Try Yellowstone National Park. Fly into Jackson Hole, its an awesome place that is a classic scene out of the old west. Explore the beautiful Grand Tetons, then head up to Yellowstone. The scenery will take your breath away, the geysers will impress you, and the wildlife is some of the best on the planet. There is something for everyone here. There are grand hotels to relax in, a lake for fishing trips, and plenty of trails for hiking and horseback riding. You can see grizzly and black bears, wolves, coyotes, elk, moose, antelope, and bison just to name a few creatures. Visit http://www.yellowstone.net to help plan your trip. Also make sure you visit the discussion forum there to see pictures, reports, and get advice from regular park visitors. It is a magical place you will never forget and immediately want to go back to. There is something about Yellowstone that gets inside of you.
You will never forget sitting in a green mountain valley, watching a herd of bison cross a river, with wolves howling in the background.

Go up to Oregon. Take a ride down the Rogue River before things get cold. We really enjoyed the trip and the guide was so knowledgeable. You can even take your dog!
San Diego is a great place to have a family vacation. There is the world famous San Diego Zoo, the SD Wild Animal Park (like the zoo except the animals roam freely), SeaWorld, Legoland, and Knotts Soak City. Next to the Xoo in Balboa Park there are tons of museums and an IMAX theater. Then of course there are the beaches!! The water is still pretty warm right now, around 70, so there’s great beach weather right now. There are a lot of great beach communities; Mission Beach has Belmont Park which has a roller coaster and other typical beach boardwalk attractions. La Jolla, Del Mar, Coronado, and many other North County beaches are great for families. THey are very scenic and not too crowded compared to Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. You can also rent a jet ski or boat on Mission Bay. The Del Mar horse racing season just began and runs through Labor Day; unlike Golden Gate Fields and Bay Meadows, this is actually one of the nicest thoroughbred tracks in the country and averages 30,000 people per day. They have many family oriented events and days on the weekends and it’s a good place for both parents and kids. And the track is right across the street from the beach so you can go there before or after the races. Also if the Padres are in town you can catch a game and the ballpark downtown.
Check out San Diego, it’s a great destination for both adults and kids and there is tons of things to do over the summer. Plus you can’t beat the weather and the beaches are the warmest and best on the west coast. From Walnut Creek it usually takes me about 7 hours to drive down here and is only like an hour and twenty minute flight.
