Hilton Garden Inn Chelsea?
I booked two rooms at this hotel. I know its fairly new. We got the room for 0 a night when every other hotel is now at over 0. Wanted to know if anyone knew about the hotel and could provide some insight. I know its not right on Time Square but we don’t mind walking 14 blocks…that’s like 2 miles or so right?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I can’t tell you anything about the hotel itself except that it’s in a great location. I imagine being that it’s a Hilton it’ll be more than suitable.
About the distance to Times Square. 14 uptown blocks is much less than two miles, in fact it’s closer to 3/4 of a mile. So yes, it’s an easy walk to Times Square. If you decide you don’t want to make the walk though, you can take the 1 train uptown two stops to Times Square. You can pick up the 1 train a block west of your hotel, at 28th St and Seventh Ave.

I’ve passed the hotel, but I’ve never been inside. As the poster above said, it’s in a great location. The restaurants in Chelsea are good (it’s a residential area – not a tourist mecca like Times Square) and are more reasonably priced than Times Square. I see that there are microwaves and refrigerators in the move – that will save you some money – you can take your restaurant leftovers back with you. Read what people who have stayed there think – see if they say they’d go back again.

The area has theatres – if you like dance, check out the Joyce Theatre (Chelsea theatres are about 1/4 the price of Broadway and some of the productions are excellent)

Be sure to check out the Chelsea Market (15th Street and Ninth Avenue – get a sample at Fat Witch Brownies – they are great! Chelsea Market used to the Nabisco Factory – Oreo Cookies were made here

Try various ethnic restaurants in the area. La Taz D’Or on Eighth Avenue and 15th Street – a hole-in-the-wall Puerto Rican restaurant has the best rice and beans – really inexpensive.
Get a Cuban sandwich ($6. – share it if you like) at Casa Havana on Eighth Avenue and 20th Street.

I love zarzuela at Francisco’s Centro Vasco (known for inexpensive fresh lobster specials); zarzuela is a shellfish stew with chunks of lobster, shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels, etc and you have your choice of sauces – I like the garlic sauce.

Be sure to go to Greenwich Village – the other side of 14th Street. Don’t miss the East Village, either. You’re going to have a great time!
