Where to stay near the California Redwoods?
We are traveling down the coast and wanted to see the redwoods, but do not know where to stay. Eurkeka, Crescent City or ??

It depends on where you want to go. If you just want to see redwoods, Arcata and Eureka are great places to stay, plenty of affordable hotels or camping. Going a little further north towards Cresent City is less hotels and more camping options, check out places like Patrick’s Point state park or Orrick for hotels or cabin rentals.
But if you are looking to stay closer to The Avenue Of the Giants, I suggest looking around GarberVille, Benbow areas, the closer to the park, the more expensive things get. I don’t recall very affordable hotels along the avenue, only "lodges" B&B and such.
What my husband and I have done several times is to stay in Ft. Bragg right on the coast and drive the 45minutes along the coast to Leggett for the drive through tree. The drive is amazing, it goes from beautiful coast and you round a bend are are deep in the redwoods. Plenty of affordable hotels, cabins/cottages, and camping in Ft Bragg, and plenty to keep you busy. Visit the amazing Botanical gardens for the coastal views, amazing landscaping and the seals barking…and don’t forget the amazing beaches hidden along the hwy and visit MacKerriker (sp) state park, the have built a beautiful walkway along the coast that ends in a deck to see the seals.
You will have fun no matter where you go. Californians are so lucky…I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

There is this place http://www.confusionhill.com/confusionhill-attractions.htm. It’s right accross the street from this site. It’s a beautiful camp ground. They have camp sites, A frame cabins, you can hike down to a really pretty lake and there is fishing and it’s just really pretty. My family used to go up there for our family reunions and we always had a blast. I think if you go to the above site and call the number they can give you the number to the camp ground, it’s right accross the street. The redwoods are awsome!
Well, personally, I like Eureka. Woods all around, and Old Town has some wonderful buildings, museums, coffee houses…. In the center of Eureka is the beautiful Sequoia Park with trees so old and amazing you can almost hear them whisper tales from hundreds of years past. Right along side those trees is a sweet little zoo.
Crescent City, on the other hand, is a bit more city-ish. And they do have a cute little aquarium. But they do tend to be hotter there and a little less in the woods department.
There are a few places that you must visit on your way if you want to really enjoy our beautiful Redwoods.
In Legget there’s the Drive Thru Tree.
Just outside of Fort Bragg on the coast is Camp One of the Jackson State Demonstration Forest. You drive through those woods and all you’ll be able to think is "Damn! God did good!"
Between Eureka and Crescent City is a fantastic park with a huge Paul Bunyan & Babe statues out front (can’t remeber the name for the life of me, sorry.)
