I need to replace my fence in back yard it is redwood and is almost 31 years old.?
I have seen the new Vinyl fences and have heard they last longer then the redwood fences. They do not need to be primed, or painted nor kept up like the redwood fences. Does anyone have a Vinyl fence? How do you like it? Or is it best to stick with the old traditional Redwood fence, that will need priming, painting yearly and then last for 30 yrs. tops?

An unpainted Redwood fence should last longer than 30 yr. That is why it was used. Redwood should not need any treatment. Changes color with age but should be sound. The posts might need replace if they are not redwood though.

The vinyl fences are fine if you like the look. The only maintenance is cleaning. The one’s by me are white and need periodic cleaning.
We have a vinyl picket fence and a composite vinyl deck. The initial cost is more (and redwood isn’t cheap either) but like you said: no maintenance or upkeep at all. We just hose and go (some stains from bird droppings containing grapes or berries can stain and must be cleaned off very quickly). If you have a busy life style or hate maintenance, these are the way to go!
