Has anyone been to Humboldt County, California?
What was it like? Did you like it? The weather?
I am specifically interested in Eureka/Trinidad areas.

My best friend and I are just about to be finished with college (woot woot!!!)and, as a get-away vacation, we’d like to go somewhere. We have a 5k budget (He’s paying for half)
We’ve decided we’d like to go to California, and visit his parents in San Diego, and go to the famous San Diego Zoo.
We’d also like to visit some historical landmarks while we are there…
and here’s the problem:
There’s just toooooo many different places to go. Are there any significant landmarks that we can travel to? Have you been to any good places?
(like the best 4 or 5 you can think of.)
Details:
-sometime during Summer (10 day vacation)
-i need the assume worst weather
I am thinking about taking a driving trip into Oregon from San Francisco in late October. I am looking for recommendations of wonderful places to visit and great things to do while I am there. What is not to be missed along the way? Highly recommended places to stay are also welcome. Also interested in the far northern part of California (Lassen, Redwoods, etc.). What can I expect weather-wise in late October? Thanks!
As part of the internship I’m doing this summer, my store is paying for me to attend a conference at the home office in IL. (I’m in the Dallas, TX area). I’ve flown about a billion times before, so I don’t have any worries about the actual flight, but I’ve never traveled for business before, so I have some questions:
1. What should I wear on the plane?
2. If I want to take my laptop with me, can I still carry-on a small suitcase, or will I have to check it?
3. What’s the weather like in Chicago? (I’ve never been further north than Oklahoma… I really don’t know what the weather is like north of here during the summer.)
4. My itenerary says "limo" for my transportation from the airport to the hotel. Am I going to be expected to tip the driver?
5. My reservation is at a Hilton Gardens Inn hotel… has anyone ever stayed at one, and if so, what was your impression of it?
I’m interested in going to college in one of these areas and i want to know:
*what are there to do in these places
*how is the weather year round im from socal so im used to hot
*any music venues i like to go to shows
*party school or no? i like to party
*school spirit?
*housing better to live on campus or off?
Thank you for any input.
A few close girlfriends and I are trying to go on a vacation to california probably around March or April. I’ve never been yet, but I’m so excited to finally get to go! They’ve flown into Long Beach Airport before– which is where we’ll probably fly into again. Does anyone have suggestions on what we should do during our vacation? Best beach? Hotel? Nightclub? Restaurant? (Oh, and what’s the weather like around then?) When I leave I want to feel like I’ve had the full out California experience.
Thanks so much!!
Hey, i’m considering going to Humboldt University, and I was wondering what the weather is like? I’m used to weather in Washington (cold, grey, rainy), but I love the sun. Is it usually sunny there?
thanks ![]()
We are looking for a place for our wedding sometime next year and could use some help finding a location. Here are some of our wants/needs and specifics.
-We want to get married ON a beach.
-Southern California would be ideal but I also love more northern beach towns such as Monterrey and Half Moon Bay(but the weather isn’t as warm)
-It’ll be a small wedding, less that 50 for sure
-Our first choice would be to get married on a private or secluded beach, not a public one because we want it to feel more intimate and would rather not have strangers doing god knows what in our wedding pictures.
-We do have a flexible budget so private resort beaches are a possibility.
And the second part of this question is our other idea…
We like the idea of having the reception at a vacation rental house, like one of those great homes with the big rooftop or otherwise balcony with the views of the ocean. And again, it is going to be a small wedding so there won’t be that many people. This could also take care of providing our family and/or wedding party with a place to stay.
Also, if we found a place like this that was not near a private beach we’d be willing to get married on a public one.
We are in Arizona so it is possible for us to go out there and check stuff out and do tours before the wedding but right now I have no clue where to start looking!
Any advice would be appreciated.
I just got back from a weekend trip out to the West Coast and I LOVED the Bay Area, even with this rare rain storm that will be gone by Thursday.
The nation’s friendliest people, I love the steep up and down streets, great food, ALMOST always great weather, 2 hours from snow ski resorts, 2 hours from Desert, 1 hour from vineyards, 2 hours from Gigantic redwood trees, Marin County was AWESOME, Berkeley speaks for itself, work ANY job low-skill or high-skilled and you get 100% of the amenities just like that!
This city is incredible, if I were jobless I’d find a way to the Bay Area, I’d dumpster dive, live on Telegraph Street Berkeley, get 50 people together to share a car.
This would be challenging and adventurous, and WAYYY more fun than sitting in some crappy East Coast town whining that the economy sucks.
Because in the Bay Area, a lot of what makes life good is what the natural earth has to provide, you know….the stuff that doesn’t cost money but instead results in higher real estate costs. BUT…if you share housing together with lots of people, it’s the BEST deal in the world!!!
and now I’m dying for a Ghirardelli Cable Car Rocky Road Ice Cream Sundae and can’t believe the whole Northeastern USA has not one SHOP! Not even NEW YORK has it!
Boulder is next on my travel list
About San Francisco parking, simple solution. Park at a BART station, ANY BART station, then use the train and the muni to get around. Save yourself the parking hastle.
We are looking to move across country from new york to california and humboldt county looks nice. We’re thinking of Arcata, Eureka or McKinleyville, but might be looking for a small town a bit more inland with less fog and warmer weather. What would you suggest?
