Cruise travel from ports close to home is what passengers want now. In almost all of the cruise reviews, cruise travelers have expressed concern with long airline trips to distant lands. Now they want to cruise from ports that are close to home to enjoy a less stressful cruise vacation. The cruise lines have caught on to this trend and are now positioning their ships up and down the United States East and West Coasts and along the Gulf of Mexico. Let’s explore the ports of embarkation on the West Coast starting in Southern California at the port of San Diego and go northward.
If you can take the time before or after your cruise travel, spend some extra time in San Diego. The city of San Diego is blessed with year round warm weather and seventy miles of Pacific Coastline. There are many activities to enjoy while in the city. They have a first class, world famous zoo in Balboa Park. At Old Town State Historic Park learn about the History of California. Near the downtown area there are 15 excellent museums and gorgeous gardens.
A little further up north is Long Beach just 20 miles south of Los Angeles. Here is where the Queen Mary retired to in 1967 and is permanently docked serving as a Hotel. With more 12,000 sea creatures the aquarium is a delightful spot to spend a couple of hours.
If you plan to take your cruise vacation out of Los Angeles there are plenty of sights to see. A pre or post cruise package from the cruise lines will allow you to see the many cultural centers or drive by the star studded neighborhoods of Malibu, Bel Air and Hollywood. Be sure to see Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, Chinatown and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Visit funky Venice Beach and dine in the many excellent restaurants. And don’t forget to at least window shop on Rodeo Drive.
The dazzling Golden Gate Bridge will be what you sail under on you cruise vacation from San Francisco. Many cruise reviews have mentioned this city as one of the favorites from which to start a cruise. You may opt to take a side trip to the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma Valleys for a day. While in San Francisco check out Fisherman’s Wharf, or take a cable car ride through the city. In this city there are numerous excellent restaurants. There is a ferry that will take you over to Alcatraz Island for a glimpse into the life of the prisoners.
Perhaps you have chosen Seattle, Washington as your embarkation port. The lovely Puget Sound area is rich with history of the maritime industries. The Olympic Mountains will leave you feeling awed when viewed from the Space Needle that is 607 feet high. For fun don’t miss the Pike Street Market for fresh seafood and produce. There are many fleets of sport fishing boats for fishing or for whale watching.
Even further up the coast you are now in Alaskan territory. Fairbanks, which was once a booming mining town, is the entrance to Alaska’s interior. If you stay here for a day or two try a really Alaskan adventure and go dog sledding. Maybe you would like to pan for gold, another part of Alaska’s history. If you want to see the Northern Lights plan your cruise vacation for late August or early September.
Choosing a cruise vacation out of Whitter, Alaska will allow you to go whale watching, and look for sea lions and bald eagles. This is a small quaint town that really lets you feel what Alaska is all about.
You will fly into Anchorage for departure from Seward, Alaska. Try to stay a few days to explore the riches Anchorage has to offer. There is the beautiful Denali National Park, where Mt. McKinney offers spectacular scenery. In Seward you can take a cruise to the Kenai Fjords as a day trip.
Any of these cruise ports will make a great start for your cruise vacation. So when planning any cruise travel pick a port that’s close to home and leave some time for exploring the town of embarkation.

This Harbor parade of decorated, dazzling lit boats in December is the next big event else than Christmas with dozens of sparkling boats floating gracefully in San Diego’s harbor.
2. San Diego Attractions.
In addition to these stimulating occasions there are other awe-inspiring must see venues that’ll fill the thirst of your nature-loving eye and give solace to your soul with its miscellany. Room on the sun kissed beaches while leaving behind your footprints on the sandy banks of San Diego let the costal breeze brush through your hair though the mild dry desert air whisper lovely unwritten melodies to you. Feel one with water; let the blue green pure water wash your lethargy away.
Sea world.
Yap! It’s time to get wet. Get drenched in water with the “soak zone” at the stunning show at sea world. Sea world alone is enough exciting attractions for the San Diego visit. It’s worth coming to this place to be transfixed by these magnificent sea-animals entertainment. You got to come early not to miss anything, as there are long lines at this place. Plus there is show timing that of course you would hate to miss and it is only repeated twice daily. Shamu the sensational gray killer whale displays the masterpiece. The tricks played by Shamu are so graceful and absorbing that by the end of the show you’ll for sure fell in love with this magnificent creature of sea. Shamu-son of sea loves to splash water on audience as a souvenir to them from him on their visit to sea world. Seeing the popularity of Shamu, Shamu the killer whale has become an unofficial symbol of the city.
You can fulfill your dream of touching a dolphin. Who can resist loving such an adorable creature? Speculate a high-energy dolphin show with state of the art special effects. You can feed them or see others feeding them. Its main lead character the star dolly decorates the dolphin show. She stands like queen amongst other fellow dolphins. Furthermore penguins, the sea otters and seals also exhibit beguiling shows. You can have your marine life choreographed with all these special animals. A unique show of land’s pets going to water and showing tricks for water is also very thrilling. If you want to have tiny winy break from seeing shows the haunted house can give you a pause tied with thrill. Furthermore you can also watch penguins, seals, dolphins, sea otters and ferocious sharks swimming through the clear blue water. Food at Sea world works like a catalyst for your tour, any meal you get is superb in its quality.
Wild Arctic though a newer attraction at Sea World but equals in amusing visitors reviving the tradition of Sea world, it provides you a glance into life under the northern seas and ice flows. The main feature of this part is that it portrays the glacier image in full spirit; you can actually smell of ice and snow and icicle drip under the canopies, which is not less than a blessing in the scorching heat of summer. Another secret to Wild Arctic’s admiration is white beluga whale in the tank at underwater viewing area. Anyways I can safely says including all the wonders San Diego’s Sea world remains the kingdom of Shamu, this is a must visit place at least once in life. There are also “Cinderella carriages” available that’ll take you to a fairyland and seal your vision with charming sea view tour along the harbor. A water ski display will add in the variety of entertainment Sea world offers. The last but of course not the least the night firework show will leave breathless with its stupendous glory.

The great thing about being a traveling nurse boils down to one key component – it’s about the travel! For those of us who love moving around and seeing the world, travel nursing is the profession of our dreams. There are many travel destinations available, based on weather, activities, cost of living, and salary. Therefore, I have gathered a list of my “Top Ten” destinations that nurses choose, based on the number of travelers who inquire about each location every month. Are you a travel RN scouting a new assignment? Then I’d like to suggest the following ten “Hot Spots”:
HAWAII – It’s no shock that Hawaii generates over 500 travel nursing inquiries per month. The wide range of outdoor activities from snow-capped mountains to snow-white sandy beaches elevates Hawaii to one of those meccas where you can build a snowman or a sand castle all in one day. Nurses tell me that you’ll discover virtually every type of outdoor activity imaginable—hiking trails that wind through erupting volcanoes, secret beaches, and lush green ranchlands. Many travelers also hunt, mountain bike, go rafting, and golf on some of the world’s most extravagant courses.
ALASKA – Travel nurses are intrigued by the possibilities of Alaska’s rugged mystery. Alaska is a huge wilderness with beautiful scenery, and travel nursing assignments offer plenty of time to see and do everything you want, whether in winter’s darkness under northern lights, or the glorious spring and summer where it’s light most of the time. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy Alaska for its’ wildlife, spectacular natural landscape, and fishing expeditions where the fish really are as big as the stories about which they’re told. Countless day cruises and sightseeing expeditions abound, as well as opportunities to hike, kayak, canoe, ski… Need we say more?
MONTANA – Whether photographer, adventurer, or both, Montana is truly a state that beckons with open arms. River trips, fishing and camping, history, snowy mountain ranges, and waterfalls are what you’ll encounter, along with plenty of open space to explore. Assignments in Montana appeal to those travel nurses who just need some time to break away from their city grind to enjoy marching to the beat of an entirely different drummer. The Big Sky Country boasts some of America’s most famous mountains, canyons, river valleys, forests, grassy plains, badlands, and caverns, and many travelers find it just irresistible enough to keep coming back.
MAINE – Maine’s splendor has inspired artists like Georgia O’Keefe and three generations of the Wyeth family, since the mid-nineteenth century. Travel nurses can’t resist at least one adventure in this charming getaway. Whether you embark on outdoor adventures like skiing and snowmobiling, or if you prefer the cozy ambience of antiquing through charming villages or just strolling or riding horseback on miles of sandy beaches in the smell of salt air, Maine is legendary and offers some wonderful travel nursing experiences. Its’ unique culture is outdoorsy and quaint, and of course you get to enjoy lobster as the locals do—fresh from the ocean!
CALIFORNIA – Warm weather and world-famous beaches make California a favorite choice for traveling nurses. Nine-hundred miles of coastline gives nurses in all locations the chance to spend many hours near the waves; and for nature lovers, California is home to many wildlife parks, remote wilderness areas, and safe-havens for endangered animals. If you’re an excitement junkie, you can scout out a wide selection of theme parks; and no matter what your taste in music, concerts abound in every type of venue. Historic sites and museums invite, as do five-star restaurants and clubs in which to see and be seen. The shopping is unparalleled, whether it’s trendy Melrose Place, La Jolla, or the strand in Venice Beach; and of course it’s home to Hollywood, and, yes, movie stars. Whether northern, southern, or coastal locations, traveling nurses return to California time and again.
WASHINGTON – The Evergreen State boasts the gorgeous Pacific Ocean, the Cascade Mountains, desert experiences, rain forests, towering volcanoes, glaciers, and lush wine country. Washington State rates high on the list of many nurse travelers. Must-sees are the Space Needle and Coulee Dam. The culture here is incredibly diverse; sophisticated, outdoorsy, and loaded with resorts, history, parks, museums, and botanical gardens. Whether touring downtown Seattle for cozy antique and book stores, exploring ancient Indian grounds, or hiking and biking mountains or trails, Washington holds a strong allure for many nurse travelers.
SOUTH CAROLINA – Endless adventure, excitement, fun and exploration represent why South Carolina is always a favorite destination for travel nurses. America’s oldest landscaped gardens frame mansions rife with historical heritage, in addition to pristine beaches and legendary marshy wetlands. For all you golfers, with over 330 golf courses, there’s always a new place to swing your clubs. But what fascinates many traveling nurses is the rich heritage in which South Carolina has paved the roads of culture, art, and folklore in our past. You can visit several historical areas and discovery centers of American history, including the American Revolution and the Civil War.
COLORADO – World-class winter skiing and summer music festivals in the mountains are just two reasons that nurses love traveling to Colorado. Boasting four spectacular seasons, Colorado is where travel nurses get to explore the state’s 18 million acres of state and national parks, forests, and monuments for biking, hiking, fishing, mountain climbing, and kayaking, to name a few. Colorado has many cultural treasures, including ancient Native American sites and dinosaur fossil exhibits, historic ghost towns, and even award-winning vineyards in Grand Junction. And for those who enjoy city life, amid all this natural beauty lie wonderful metropolitan areas like Denver and Boulder, full of shopping, performing arts, and professional sports.
TENNESSEE – From energetic nights of blues on Beale Street, to gorgeous rolling acres of Tennessee Walker horse country, to peaceful Smoky Mountain sunsets, Tennessee is a vacation that offers many world-renowned attractions. Nurse travelers who visit Tennessee will find that they’re within a day’s drive of 75-percent of the U.S. population via quality interstates and highways. Attractions in Tennessee include the Jack Daniels’ distillery, Elvis’s Graceland, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and lots of southern hospitality. And don’t forget the crown jewel of the southern Appalachians, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
ARIZONA – If you adore the outdoors, then the Grand Canyon State might just be for you. The nurses who go there just rave about Arizona’s landscape which takes in tall mountain ranges, swift rivers, grasslands, sand dunes, and cactus forests all set against a beautiful sky that glows pink in the sunset. The traveler nurses who enjoy history will find plenty of it here, including Old West reformations, Native American nations, and Spanish-influenced areas all in one state. Arizona is also home to the nation’s greatest golf courses, resorts, spas, cabins, and ranches.
As you can see, limitless possibilities exist for those nurses who want travel, fun, and adventure to be part of their daily lives. If you’re a nurse who travels and it’s time for you to move on to a new location, try one of these top travel nursing destinations and see what new experiences lie ahead.

Travel Nursing offers a wonderful opportunity to nurses and other medical professionas to see the United States, work in the best hospitals, travel with friends and family, and make more money than working as staff.
Here are the top ten reasons you should consider this amazing opportunity.
1. You get to visit cities you otherwise would probably not get to experience. Sure you may visit, but living there and visiting are two different things. For example, when you visit San Francisco, you see the major sights and attractions, you do the tourist thing, and you go home. When you actually get to live there for three months or more, you get to experience all of Northern California, and discover the places that locals frequent. These are the places that make San Francisco the hip spot it is.
2. You get to work in a variety of the best hospitals around the country. This helps you to enhance you skills, learn different methods of care, meet fellow nurses and doctors, and enhance your resume. Want to work at the nest childrens hospital in the country? You can do it. Want to work at the top cancer centers? You can do it. Anything you want to do, is available to you because of the seasonal need for nurses.
3. Since your housing and other smaller expenses are usually paid for by the travel nurse company, you actually make more money than when at home. When in your home city you still have to pay rent, mortgage, light, water, etc. While traveling, these should be taken care of by the travel nurse company. This leaves you with food, fun, and car expenses. Many of the travel nurse companies also provide great health insurance that can offset whatever you pay for any regular medications.
4. You get to meet new people and make more friends. Not only will you meet fellow travel nurses, but you will meet the regular staff nurses who make great sources of information about the local area. Then you can also meet your neighbors staying in the same apartment complex or rv park as you. Get close enough, and you will always have a place to stay if you ever decide to come back to this city once your assignment is over.
5. If you are thinking of moving to a new city, travel nursing gives you the ultimate way to check things out before you make the commitment. You can actually work at the hospital you are considering applying to. You can check out the different neighborhoods. You can even start searching for an apartment or home to buy in the three months you will be there.
6. You have the opportunity to have family and friends over to visit you in your new assignment. If you can make your schedule so you can have a few days off together, you all can visit all the sights together. It is much cheaper than taking a vacation.
7. You do not get involved in hospital politics. Every job has politics and so does every hospital. While on assignment you will see it happening but since you will be gone in a few weeks, you do not have to be bothered by it or get involved. You also get to avoid the boring meetings or classes the regular staff has to participate in because they are permanent. You get to just come in, do your work and leave.
8. You can travel with your family, a friend, or another nurse. Many travel nurse companies offer private housing. This is great if you have your spouse with you or another friend. Many long term travel nurses travel everywhere in their RV with their entire family. Kids included.
9. You can travel whenever you want. If you live in a city that you love, but do not like the extremely cold winters, you can do a travel assignment to a warm sunny place in winter time. Or if you live in a place that has hot muggy summers you can travel to a cooler place and spend the summer months there. For example, anyone living in say Houston, would probably like to spend the summer months in a cooler place. Maybe even Alaska. This is possible only through travel nursing
10. Travel nursing is great to build your personal skills: communication, self-esteem, confidence, become more vocal, and more independent. You become a better nurse by learning new ideas and skills. You make your own travel plans, you get to live on your own for a while, you learn to stand up for yourself when the situation calls for it. You grow as a person in many, many ways.

Travel Photography Tips – How To Take Great Pictures
Taking good pictures on your family vacation is pretty easy when you know some basic photography skills. Here you will find some really simple things you can do to take your travel photos from so-so to fabulous. Add Some Drama You can add interest and visual appeal to your pictures by adding some drama to your pictures. One way to add drama is to show scale. You can do this by adding people or natural features to your photographs of big things like monuments, landscapes or the world’s biggest Redwood.
Clean up the Clutter In the excitement of seeing so much of interest, it’s easy to forget about the background. But before you press the shutter release, always take a look at the image you’re photographing. Simply by changing positions slightly or changing your angle, you may be able to eliminate background clutter like billboards or power lines. Take Pictures of the Locals No matter where you are traveling in the world, learn how to say some basic things like “May I please take your picture?” in the local language. Offer to send those you photograph a copy so make sure to have a small notebook or pencil to jot down names, addresses or emails.
Unique and Candid Photos Candid pictures are great when traveling but don’t forget to take the occasional portrait of the the family in front of a special landmark or beautiful scenery. Don’t forget to get in the vacation pictures too by using the self timer or remote shutter.
Always take pictures of things that interest you instead of taking pictures of things “you have to take” like those shown on postcards in the gift store. You can always buy some postcards to add to your travel souvenirs and save the really unique subjects for your photographs. Unusual subjects always make great travel photos so always keep an eye out for these unique photo opportunities.
Every Photo Has a Story You may want to tell your vacation story by using your photographs from the time you departed to your return home so make sure to capture these moments too. Include highlights like your campground neighbors,an unusual meal you had, activities, the look on a family member’s face when he or she saw something for the first time. After you get home and upload the pictures, select the best ones to tell the story of your trip and then proudly frame it on your wall. Recruit Additional Picture Taking Help If you are traveling with children, give each child a camera (use disposables for the young ones) and encourage them to take pictures too.
And when you get home, you’ll be sure to have a great selection of pictures to put in a collage frame and hang on the wall. Make sure to take notes while on your trip, so you’ll have everything you need to write photo captions after you get home. Camera Care and Maintenance If you have any plans for being around water, make sure to bring a one time use or waterproof camera. The salt water and sand from the beach can seriously damage or ruin your camera so be extra careful no matter what type of camera you’re using.
Remember that even for the most experienced pros, not every picture will be a keeper, so bring extra memory cards unless you have a way to upload your photos while your away. Always remember to recharge the batteries and replace the memory card every day so you can be ready for whatever photo opportunity comes your way. By doing this, you’ll be ready to go in the morning!
As you can see, taking great travel and vacation pictures can be a lot of fun and relatively easy just by following these seven tips. And, by the time you return home you will have a lot of fantastic pictures to share with your friends and family.
