My friend who is travelling with me has booked us an internal flight which will mean we only spend about 2 days in San Francisco and the rest of the time in LA. I’ve heard from friends that there’s not much to see in LA if you’re not into shopping and sitting on the beach. I’m considering asking him to try and cancel the internal flight and maybe we could hire a car and drive between the two cities – i heard the coast route is really nice. I’m into museums and history and would love to see the giant redwoods and stuff…we have a friend in LA to stay with but nothing else booked…please help – I’m really worried that we’ll spend a load of money to get over there and waste the little time we have!

I’m going to be traveling from San Francisco to Redwood National Park in May. I’ll eventually end up in Portland. I don’t have a whole lot of time, but I want to maximize my views, and I’d like to drive along the coast for a while. Would it be better to take 101 or Highway 1 to Redwood? I’m not intending on stopping to take pictures all the time, and I’m not against speeding. Approximately how long would it take to take either road.

Planning on going to the redwoods, which I think are close to the border, and then driving to San Francisco, preferably the scenic route. Does anyone know the distance and drive time?

We had a Vanagon at one time, purchased new at a Redwood City dealership. We drove it 11 years in SF, and got between 13 – 16 mpg.

We went to an auto show, and was told by a manufacter’s representative that Vanagons were no longer being produced.

Lately we have seen many Vanagons around San Francisco. They look like the old aircooled types — very few, if any Eurovans — and they seem to be in very good condition (at least from the sound and the appearance..

Where can we purchase a new one locally? Or are they all used?

I will be getting married on September 24th and plan on having my honeymoon in Northern California. The honeymoon will probably last for about a week, so I don’t want to travel anywhere below the Central Coast. I plan on going to maybe the redwood parks and grass valley, but I would like to avoid San Francisco if possible (been there plenty of times already). What would be some fun activities for us newlyweds in that area? I was thinking of maybe taking a train ride but don’t know what the best place would be for that. I was also thinking of visiting a wildlife sanctuary or aviary, but I’m don’t know where any good ones are. Any additional ideas would be great, thanks!

I will drive tomorrow from San Francisco to Portland. Redwood Nat’l State Park seems to be the best place but it is too far away.
