I live in Wisconsin and would like to drive to California, then to…..?
Chieti Arizona and New Mexico, then make our way back home, for a huge vacation next year. I’ve never driven so far before, and am wondering if I would be getting in over my head with so much driving. How long should I take off work to do it? I do want to make stops along the way, of course, to see the sights, like Yellowstone maybe, the giant redwoods, San Francisco, etc. Anyone out there ever done something similar? How many miles per day should I expect to drive? And how much would such a trip cost? I know that would depend on what we do, etc.

i’ve done it in 1997 . to really enjoy the trip,you will need at least 3 weeks,or more if available . there is a web site on the net you can contact for exact routes, or contacttpipple AAA for info. once in calif. don’t miss mission bay, and the trip north to sf is fantastic on route 101 along the coast ! good luct and enjoy . don’ drive more than 400 miles aday and get plenty rest .
I drove to California from Wisconsin in August 2006. My daughter got her first job after college and wanted to bring her own car, so I helped her with the driving. We spent 4 days and 3 nights driving. Stayed in Omaha, Denver and Las Vegas. We drove average 8-9 hours per day. We did not stop at any sights as she needed to start work. Hope this helps you start your planning.
