Can I see some giant redwoods on the drive from LA to San Francisco or do I have to drive farther north?
soberly I am driving along highway 101 from LA to San Francisco and want to visit some parks with Giant Redwoods, I can’t seem to find anything on any of my maps. Do I have to drive farther North, and how far?

You can also see them in Muir Woods near the Golden Gate bridge.

Beautiful place for hiking and seeing the redwoods. I have been there and its a great place for nature lovers.

Not along the drive, but after you get to San Francisco it’s a short drive to Muir Woods.

Henry Cowell and Big Sur have been mentioned. There’s also Big Basin State Park, north of Santa Cruz, about 70 mi. south of San Francisco.
But the really big, impressive stands of redwoods are all further north, like Humboldt County.

As others mentioned, your problem will not be North/South as much as East/West. As you drive up the valley you will have Giant Sequoia to the East (Kings Canyon, Yosemite) and Coastal Redwoods to the West (Big Sur etc). Either direction is far enough out of the way to require an extra day or two devoted to seeing redwoods. (And you will have snow to the east and perhaps thick fog to the west.)
Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park in Santa Cruz county has some giant redwoods, and it’s between LA and San Francisco. Also, Muir Woods just north of San Francisco has some, too.
However, the really famous ones are quite a ways north… about 200-300 miles. And East… about 100 miles.
